David Krakauer is one of the most significant and influential musicians in new Jewish music, and is thus a central figure in the new wave of klezmer music. He has been a prominent performer in several genres, both jazz, classical and avant-garde, for a number of years before joining The Klezmatics in 1988.
Since then, he has primarily been associated with klezmer, developing his own distinctive sound that challenges the klezmer tradition by using elements from jazz, rock, funk and hip-hop. In this concert, Krakauer presents acoustic versions of his own compositions and melodies from the traditional klezmer repertoire.
This is a unique opportunity to experience Krakauer's characteristic sound up close, completely unplugged here in Trondheim. We will hear classics like "Terkish Yale V'Yove Tanz" performed in the almost telepathic interaction between the musicians that David has played with for many years.
Judy Gelman Myers writes for the New York Press: “Throughout history, the Jewish tradition has renewed itself wherever it has settled—from Babylon to Córdoba, from Bessarabia to New York, through both exile and freedom. David Krakauer has become a symbol of precisely these processes, wherever they have taken him and his clarinet.”
